Assistant General Manager

Role Overview

As our Assistant General Manager, you play a key role in the daily operation and success of the restaurant. Working closely with the General Manager, you will lead, support, and inspire the team to deliver exceptional guest experiences.

You are the second-in-command and act as a leader on the floor, ensuring smooth operations, high service standards, and strong team engagement. In the absence of the General Manager, you will take full responsibility for the operation.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead by example and maintain a positive, energetic, and supportive working environment.

  • Assist developing team members.

  • Coach and support the team to deliver exceptional service standards.

  • Ensure all employees understand company procedures, steps of service, and operational standards.

  • Conduct regular team briefings and communicate company updates effectively.

  • Support managers and supervisors with coaching, training, and operational guidance.

Guest Experience

  • Be present on the floor during service and lead from the front.

  • Ensure every guest receives a warm welcome and memorable experience.

  • Handle guest feedback and resolve issues professionally and efficiently.

  • Maximize guest satisfaction while maintaining efficient table turnover.

  • Ensure service standards are consistently delivered across all dayparts.

Operations

  • Oversee the daily operation of the restaurant, ensuring smooth service.

  • Take responsibility for the restaurant during weekends and in the absence of the General Manager.

  • Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed correctly.

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and presentation throughout the venue.

  • Support all departments when needed and step into any operational role to assist the team.

People & Scheduling

  • Support rota planning and labor management alongside the General Manager.

  • Monitor staffing levels and adjust according to business needs.

  • Organize breaks and allocate positions during service.

  • Ensure effective communication regarding scheduling, attendance, and operational needs.

Financial & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Assist with stock control, ordering, and inventory management.

  • Control costs and minimize waste.

  • Understand and manage till systems, back-office reporting, and daily cash procedures.

  • Complete end-of-day reports and ensure accurate financial controls.

  • Stay up to date with all company systems, communications, meetings, and operational platforms.

Compliance & Licensing

  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, food safety regulations, and health and safety standards.

  • Be fully knowledgeable about alcohol legislation and licensing requirements.

  • As a designated person on the alcohol licence, ensure that either you or an approved supervisor is present whenever alcohol is being served.

  • Follow and uphold all legal responsibilities related to alcohol service.
